Software Engineer, Quantum AI at Google (Los Angeles, CA)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Physics, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Relevant software development experience in Python and/or C++.
  • Training and/or experience working in quantum mechanics and quantum computing

Preferred qualifications:

  • Masters degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or other technical related field.
  • 2 years of experience working with software.
  • Experience writing numerically performant code in C++ or a similar language.
  • Experience with high-performance and distributed computing. Experience in optimization, machine learning, and/or cryptography.
  • Research experience with a publication record in Physics, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Passion for learning and diving into complex technical projects.

Quantum is a research effort from Google AI that aims to build quantum processors and develop novel quantum algorithms to dramatically accelerate computational tasks for machine learning.
As a Software Engineer, you will join the Algorithms/Applications subteam, based in Venice Beach, CA.

There is always more information out there, and the Research and Machine Intelligence team has a never-ending quest to find it and make it accessible. We're constantly refining our signature search engine to provide better results, and developing offerings like Google Instant, Google Voice Search and Google Image Search to make it faster and more engaging. We're providing users around the world with great search results every day, but at Google, great just isn't good enough. We're just getting started.


  • Build software infrastructure and tools for simulating and implementing quantum algorithms on NISQ hardware.
  • Perform numerical simulation experiments and quantum computing experiments. Aggregate and analyze data.
  • Contributing to and assist with the development of open source software tools such as Cirq, OpenFermion, IsingFlow, TensorFlow, Quantum, and future projects.
  • Leverage Google infrastructure for massively parallel runs of algorithms developed by the Google AI Quantum group.
