Energy Algorithms Engineer, Nest at Google (Mountain View, CA)

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in algorithm development for energy management systems or HVAC control.
  • Software development experience in Python C/C++ and/or Java.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in cloud-based algorithm implementations.
  • Effective problem solving, algorithm design, system design, and complexity analysis skills.
  • Developed data analysis, visualization, rapid prototyping, and validation skills.

At Google Nest were working to make the smart home less complicated and more helpful. The Nest Intelligence team develops the algorithms that make Nests products and services smart and helpful, whether that be through sensing, machine perception, control systems, pattern recognition, or preference learning. As an Energy Algorithms Engineer, you will help keep our Nest Thermostat customers comfortable while saving them money and reducing the worlds energy consumption. In this role youll be developing and helping deploy innovative algorithms in the energy space, working closely within the team and with people in product management, embedded software development, UX and data services.

Responsibilities

  • Discover, design, improve and build new energy load management and HVAC control algorithms that can run on Google Nest devices or in the cloud.
  • Analyze large datasets to discover patterns, build models and test algorithms.
  • Understand and design for user expectations and behavior.
  • Identify opportunities for machine learning and other algorithms to provide value to our users.
  • Collaborate across Alphabet and with 3rd party organizations on energy research.
