The Role

The Business Intelligence Engineer will work with BI team members and other employees throughout the organization in using data to build critical information and knowledge to help the organization make sound business decisions. The Business Intelligence Engineer will share the responsibilities for the full life cycle of development, implementation, production support, and performance tuning of Business Intelligence reporting environments. The Business Intelligence Engineer will work both independently and in teams to create simple to complex reporting solutions by leveraging the Microsoft BI stack.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Create, instantiate and Implement data models for ODS and reporting systems, and design and implement processes to populate those structures with internal and external data sources.
  • Gathers business and functional requirements and translates these requirements into robust, scalable, operational solutions.
  • Documents new and existing models, solutions, and implementations.
  • Assist in data mart/data warehouse design and development using the Kimball Methodology.
  • Design and Implement reporting solutions using Reporting Services, Tableau, or other data visualization tools.
  • Works on multiple projects as a team member, and sometimes a technical lead.
  • Design and Implement ELT processes using T-SQL, SSIS, or other data integration tools.
  • Ability to manipulate data using SSIS and TSQL.
  • Ability to write complex stored procedures and TSQL code.
  • Provides input in developing BI team processes, policies, and standards.
  • Works closely with reporting consumers to create ad hoc reports to support timely business decisions.
  • Designs and delivers end-user training materials.
  • Provides guidance, training, and problem-solving assistance to other team members, and be open to receiving similar guidance, training, and assistance from others.
  • Work as a team member helping enable business focused teams drive improvements in key metrics, customer experience, and business results.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent experience is required.
  • 5 to 7 years of business intelligence development or related technical experience is required.
  • 3+ year of business intelligence tool experience with Tableau or equivalent technology is required.
  • 3+ year of experience of Data Warehouse design methodologies and best practices is required.
  • Experience with data modeling tools such as ERWIN, ERStudio, TOAD Data Modeler, or similar product is desired.
  • Experience in an agile development environment is desired.
  • Personal lines insurance industry knowledge is desired.
  • Experience working with MongoDB or other document store database is desired.
  • Experience with system integration, desktop technologies, windows server platforms, and mobile technologies is desired.
  • A working knowledge of statistics and advanced mathematics is desired.
